Debbie Fledderjohann is President of Top Echelon Contracting, Inc. (TEC) and Vice President of Top Echelon, Inc. She has 23 years of experience in the contract staffing industry. She also has 17 years of experience in Information Technology and Engineering applications through Babcock and Wilcox, McDermott International. The combination of these two career paths provides an excellent background for helping recruiters in technical, professional, and healthcare contract staffing.
As President of TEC, Debbie has been a key player in determining client and candidate trends, technology directions, and recruiter needs during the continually changing staffing and economic environment. She has played a critical role in helping direct (perm) recruiters add contract staffing to their business models. To date, she has helped recruiters earn over $57 million in contract income.
TEC is a contract staffing service provider (aka back-office), and their goal is to make it easy for recruiters to expand their business models to incorporate contract staffing. They have the ability and expertise to employ technical, professional, and healthcare contractors on long-term assignments. TEC was established in 1992 and has placed over 15,000 contractors in 49 states.
For 12 years, Debbie was the primary person responsible for securing $45 million in government staffing contracts with the United States Department of Veterans Affairs. Her RFP efforts resulted in 626 contract placements for recruiters.
As the back-office for recruiters, TEC becomes the W-2 employer of the candidate and handles all of the financial, legal, and administrative details associated with contractors. This includes the client and candidate contracts, timesheet collection, payroll funding and processing, invoicing, state and federal taxes, insurance, Workers’ Compensation, and background checks. They also offer ACA-compliant benefits through Aetna.
In addition to being responsible for the daily operations of TEC, Debbie has been training recruiters on contract staffing at conferences like NAPS, CSP and Top Echelon Network since 1993. She is a monthly contributor to The Fordyce Letter, along with other recruiting and staffing publications, and writes a newsletter called “Contracting Corner – The Perm Recruiter’s Contracting Resource” that is mailed to 12,000+ recruiters. Debbie also helps recruiters with contract staffing in TE’s blog.
